CHEQUERED PLATES

Short Description:

Chequered plates, also known as chequer plates or checker plates or tread plate, are lightweight metal plates with good anti-slipping and decorative features. One side of a chequered plate is raised regular diamonds or lines, while the other side is plane. The features of corrosion resistance and weather resistance with aesthetic surface treatment make it suitable for architectural outdoor uses. These chequered plates are available in standard galvanized plate, aluminium plate and stainless steel plate materials.

APPLICATIONS

Uses of chequered plate include decorative, architectural applications, residential and commercial buildings, engineering, industrial and shipbuilding.

GRADES

304 and 304L are the most commonly used grades for stainless steel chequered plates as they are less expensive, highly versatile, easily roll-formed or shaped and offer excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, while also maintaining their durability. For coastal and marine environments, grades 316 and 316L are often favoured due to their superior corrosion resistance and are particularly effective in acidic environments.

Apart from stainless steel, chequer plates are also in aluminium material. Some of the common aluminium grades used in chequer plates are AA3105 and AA5052. Aluminium chequer plates have excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, which are designed for welded structures requiring maximum joint strength and efficiency. Aluminium chequer plates can also be anodized for increased corrosion resistance.

Mild steel grade ASTM A36 is a low carbon steel that exhibits exceptional strength, coupled with formability. Checkered plates in this grade can be fabricated and machined easily and can be welded securely. ASTM A36 mild steel checkered plates can be galvanized to provide higher corrosion resistance.
